El servicio es gratuito pero también tiene algunas secciones de pago para conocerlo debes registrarte y completar las instrucciones.

El proyecto busca acortar la brecha lingüística que se require para los trabajos que cada vez son más globales, proporcionando de esta manera una plataforma colaborativa en donde todos podemos aprender y enseñar de igual forma un nuevo idioma. Su opción gratuita es bastante completa, y su área de pago está relacionada con las clases en vivo y los tutores.

5 aplicaciones para aprender idiomas

1. Duolingo

¿Te has propuesto alguna vez aprender nuevos idiomas? ¿O quizás prefieres mejorar los conocimientos ya adquiridos? Para estos casos y muchos más existe Duolingo, una plataforma Web convertida en red social para aprender idiomas, entre ellos Inglés, Francés y Alemán. Al mismo tiempo Duolingo apuesta por el crowdsourcing, pudiendo los usuarios traducir textos de Internet y ayudar a sus propietarios.

Mediante una interfaz sencilla y elegante podremos ir subiendo de nivel en el idioma que deseemos a medidas que vayamos completando nuevas lecciones, claro está, cada vez más complicadas. Conseguiremos puntos y logros, que luego se acumularán y aparecerán en nuestro perfil público junto con nuestro nivel y podremos compararlo con los demás usuarios de la plataforma.

Cada nivel te llevará unos 5 minutos y todos tienen temáticas distintas. Sí crees que dispones de un nivel más avanzado puedes realizar exámenes o pruebas, en los cuales podrás superar directamente los niveles más básicos. Según los responsables, con unas 100 horas en Duolingo se puede conseguir habilidades intermedias en el idioma practicado.

Babbel is a plataform that offers more than ten languages for you to learn. Its method consists in learning by memorization. You will see lots of cards with pictures and the name of the object you're seeing. At firts you will learn the spelling and the pronunciation, but as you progress you will be asked to complete sentences and use the words you're learning to make other sentences as well. This method pretends to show words and its use so you can lear, your brain does the rest.

Busuu se maneja a través de una interfaz que resulta bastante simpática, sugiriendo una metáfora sobre nuestro aprendizaje: cada idioma que conocemos se traduce en un arbolito que crece a medida que incrementamos nuestras habilidades. De esta manera, en Busuu logramos un jardín que se va adornando al mismo tiempo que avanzamos en nuestro curso. Por superar etapas y ejercitaciones, recibimos a cambio manzanas y regalos varios. Claro está que así como somos premiados, debe haber una advertencia si nos dejamos estar, pues en tanto no aprendamos nada nuevo, Busuu dejará que -con justicia- a nuestros árboles se los coman los bichos. 

Busuu posee controles bastante intuitivos para administrar el tipo de material del cual queremos aprender. Desde nuestro panel de unidades, podemos seleccionar hasta cinco temas para incorporar, en simultáneo. Cada tema tiene actividades de vocabulario, interpretación de diálogos, redacción, evaluaciones, audios de pronunciación, e incluso la posibilidad de chatear e intercambiar mensajes directamente con un nativo de la lengua. WebQuest

Search for the word "WebQuest" in any search engine, and you soon discover thousands of online lessons created by teachers around the world. What is a WebQuest? A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented online tool for learning, says workshop expert Bernie Dodge. This means it is a classroom-based lesson in which most or all of the information that students explore and evaluate comes from the World Wide Web. Beyond that, WebQuests:

• can be as short as a single class period or as long as a month-long unit;

• usually (though not always) involve group work, with division of labor among students who take on specific roles or perspectives;

• are built around resources that are preselected by the teacher. Students spend their time USING information, not LOOKING for it.

• WebQuests are activities, using Internet resources, which encourage students to use higher order thinking skills to solve a real messy problem. WebQuests are a sub-set of Problem-Based Learning (PBL).  

• Teachers around the world are making WebQuests for their own classes as well as to share.
    
• Students of all ages and grades can use WebQuests.
    
• Most, if not all, of the information used in WebQuests is drawn from the Internet.
     
• Students are provided with online resources and are asked to use this information constructively to solve the presented problem rather than just cutting and pasting material into an assignment or project.
     
• By eliminating the need to search or hunt for information the student is given more time to analyse, criticise and assess the information they find.
     
• WebQuests are inquiry-oriented activities designed to make the most of the student's time.
     
• Most schools cannot afford the time or resources required to allow students to search the Internet without a clear purpose in mind, and there is doubtful educational benefit in doing so. WebQuests allow students to use the Internet without the arduous task of filtering through the mountains of information contained within it. Teachers have done this work already!
     
• Great WebQuests direct students to not only search for information but todebate, discuss or defend a particular stance with classmates.

WebQuests are designed:

• From the perspective of student/learner
• As coherent and relevant units - either as short term lessons (a few days/lessons) to long term projects
• With a whole to part organisation
• With the teacher as facilitator
• With learning through the active construction of meaning
• For flexible environments, and
• To support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation

Types of WebQuests:

 Short term: Designed to be completed over one to three lessons. Its aim is for the learner to have been introduced to a significant amount of new information and to have come to some understanding of it. Long Term WebQuests

Long term WebQuest: It will usually take between one week and a month of school time, though they may be extended over longer periods if desired. Its aim is for the learner to have been introduced to new information and to have analysed it thoroughly. From this analysis, learners extend the subject in some way and then demonstrate their understanding through a response.

Videoconferencing software is quickly becoming standard computer equipment. For example, Microsoft's NetMeeting is included in Windows 2000 and is also available for free download from the NetMeeting homepage. For personal use, free or inexpensive videoconference software and a digital camera afford the user easy - and cheap - live connections to distant friends and family. Although the audio and video quality of such a minimal setup is not high, the combined benefits of a video link and long-distance savings may be quite persuasive. The tangible benefits for businesses using videoconferencing include lower travel costs and profits gained from offering videoconferencing as an aspect of customer service. The intangible benefits include the facilitation of group work among geographically distant teammates and a stronger sense of community among business contacts, both within and between companies. In terms of group work, users can chat, transfer files, share programs, send and receive graphic data, and operate computers from remote locations. On a more personal level, the face-to-face connection adds non-verbal communication to the exchange and allows participants to develop a stronger sense of familiarity with individuals they may never actually meet in the same place. A videoconference can be thought of as a phone call with pictures - Microsoft refers to that aspect of its NetMeeting package as a "web phone" - and indications suggest that videoconferencing will some day become the primary mode of distance communication."
